Kai Bowen is a cellist and composer from Ogden, Utah. He is currently studying at the University of Utah under the guidance of esteemed mentors John Eckstein and Miguel Chuaqui. Kai discovered his love for the visual and performing arts in his early years at DaVinci Academy, and still holds a dear appreciation for the time he spent oil painting and building ceramic sculptures.
Throughout his musical journey, Kai has performed with a variety of prestigious ensembles, including the Ogden Youth Symphony, Northern Utah Youth Symphony, Ogden Honors Orchestra, Utah All-State Orchestra, University of Utah’s Philharmonic Orchestra, Salt Lake Symphony, and Chamber Orchestra Ogden.
As a composer, Kai has composed music for the Utah Ballet at the University of Utah and collaborated with artists such as Jessica Rudman, notably serving as an assistant for the University of Utah’s Teaching Composition Symposium. His dedication extends beyond performance and composition; Kai has contributed to a Pilot Study on composition pedagogy, showcasing his commitment to nurturing the next generation of musical talent. His works have been featured in new music concerts, and he plans to continue playing and composing as much new music as possible!
Beyond his performing and teaching schedule, Kai enjoys spending time with his family and friends, hiking, trail running, and painting or sculpting whenever he can.
Kai teaches from his studio locations in Murray and Salt Lake City, Utah.
